Jeremy and i got back from Cambodia a few days ago. We flew into Bangkok from Phnom Penh on Saturday afternoon, spent the night eating, drinking, and shopping on Khao San Road, and left for Seoul early Sunday morning. In the span of 24 hours, i went from this:
to this:
It BLEW.
Saturday night, I was out in a spaghetti strap tank top, skirt, and flip flops. Sunday morning, I woke up to 80-something degree weather and hopped on a plane. Monday morning, I woke up to the heaviest snow Seoul has seen in decades (according to your source). As a long time Houstonian, it’s practically my obligation to complain about heat and humidity. NEVER AGAIN. This is my second winter in Korea, the second real winter of my life, and I hate it. HATE IT. I spent the entire 9 days I was on vacation sitting in the sun, swimming in the sun, climbing temple ruins in the sun, or being the annoying asshole on the 6 hour bus ride that refused to draw the shade on the window I was plastered up against so as to soak up as much heat as possible.
Yes, I have plenty of Canadians around to remind me of how “mild” Korean winters are. I don’t give a fuck what they say. I’ve had to wear waterproof shoes all week, today it was -18 C, and I can’t even count the number of times I’ve nearly busted my ass just trying to get around. Sure, it may be colder in Manitoba or wherever the hell else you’re from. I DON’T CARE. I hate the cold weather.
It’s currently Cambodia’s “cool” season, with a high in the low 30′s and the low in the high 20′s (celsius…fahrenheit, we’re talking 80′s). During the hot season, it’s just a little hotter, but the sun is supposedly more intense. I’ve decided that I’d much rather live with that year round than ever deal with another snowflake in my life, snowboard-strapped-to-my-feet situations excluded.
I need another cat nap in the sun on a bus. Soon enough, soon enough….
